Our Kids Top 10: The Best of Beaches Turks and Caicos

Updated: Jun 22, 2022

Today’s blog features the two youngest travel correspondents on our team. Our children, Brody and Ari are sharing with us, through an exclusive interview, their Beaches Turks and Caicos experience. Sunhats and Travel Maps had an opportunity to catch up with the kids after returning from Turks and Caicos and prior to their departure to the Dominican Republic. Both Brody and Ari were pretty excited to share their adventure with STM. Brody is 13 and Ari is 9 and they both have an interesting perspective about the resort.

STM.. Kids What was your favorite memory from your trip to Turks and Caicos?

BH.. The catamaran trip was a cool ride through the waves. I sat up front on the cargo net stretched at the bow of the boat and the waves crashed right beneath me.

STM.. Mom and Dad let you go sit up front?

BH.. Ya it was very cool watching the waves come towards the boat. But I also very much enjoyed the wave rider ride in the water park.

STM.. Beaches Turks and Caicos has a waterpark?

BH.. Yes. The resort has a water park and there is a ride that allows you to practice surfing and boogie boarding without getting in the ocean.

AH.. My favorite memory was..... Hum.... Doing the tie dye shirt activity.

STM.. Did the resort give you a shirt to tie dye?

AH.. No. We used one of my dad’s white t-shirts. My favorite part was unraveling the shirt to see the colors.

STM.. Did you get to pick out the colors?

AH.. Yes. I picked several colors and the girls from the kid's staff dunked the shirt for me.

STM.. Brody what pool did you enjoy the most?

BH.. The waterfall pool because we spent the most time there and I enjoyed the cave behind the waterfall. The pool also had a bar with drinks for kids that you could swim or walk up to. It was fun to walk through the pool get a drink and sip it while we walked back through the water to our lounge chairs.

STM.. Ari what was your favorite pool on the resort?

AH.. I liked the Italian pool. I could walk in from the side with the hot tub and it would get deeper like the ocean. But my favorite part of this pool was sitting in the water at a bar with the grownups. I drank Roy Rogers.

STM.. Does the Roy Roger drink have Coke?

AH.. Yes. I think it is Diet Coke and cherry juice. It has two cherries floating on the top.

STM.. OK guys let's talk about food. What was your favorite restaurant? Is there food that kids enjoy eating?

AH.. There was a lot of great food for kids. The breakfast buffet was my favorite. It was right down below our room, and they had a cook who made custom omelets. The buffet had a section with pastries and chocolates that was delicious.

BH.. I agree with her, I think breakfast was my favorite meal.

STM.. You liked the breakfast better than the grouper dinners or the sushi dinner? I think you even had a steak one night.

BH.. Those were all great but I like that I got to go to breakfast with my sister by ourselves. We could choose inside or outside seating and the hostess would seat us and take our drink orders. I think they changed the food options each day. The omelet and pastry stuff were there every day but there was always new food at the buffet.

STM.. If you had to pick only one kid drink to drink all week, what would you choose?

AH.. Elmo’s Fire Ball because it had Coke.

STM.. Did that drink have cherry juice and cinnamon?

AH.. Yes, it had all of those things!

BH.. My favorite drink was the Chocolate Monkey because it was a chocolate banana milk shake on ice. It was so good in the heat.

STM.. OK, I want you guys to each describe your favorite day. What was the best day of the whole trip?

BH.. My favorite day started by going to the buffet for a breakfast of bacon, eggs, and pancakes. Then I read all morning in a cabana by the waterfall pool. We had lunch at the pool side restaurant I think I had chicken nuggets and a piece of quesadilla. After lunch we swam in the pool and behind the waterfall. Taking breaks to get drinks and read a bit more. We showered and got dressed up for dinner at Schooners and I had mahi mahi. After dinner we watched the outdoor movie and had a snack.

AH.. My favorite day was the excursion day. We took a boat ride, saw an island with lots of lizards and then had a dance party.

STM.. You had a dance party on the island?

AH.. No, we had a dance party on the boat. They also had a sandwich buffet and kids drinks. After the dance party we had a cannonball contest off of the side of the boat. We also slid down the slide on the back of the boat, so much fun!!

STM.. What was the X-box lounge like?

AH.. Fun!! They had so many games we do not have. My favorite was Lego Harry Potter.

BH.. It was interesting. The games they had were the demo version and you could not play the whole game. But they had a big selection to choose from.

STM.. Was there couches our chairs?

BH.. They had counters and desks with game stations spaced out. You sat on high chairs like bar stools.

STM.. What was the water park like?

BH.. The wave rider was fun to ride and all of the slides went fast. There were tube slides and body slides and a few slides emptied into a lazy river you could play or float in. I liked the wave rider the best. Kids my age hung out there so I could meet new friends.

AH.. My favorite slide was the gigantic blue slide. You lay down and go feet first and it was so fast. The best part was that it was completely dark and you could not see the turns coming. The big red slide had led strips inside that glowed.

STM.. You guys missed some school to go on this trip. What was it like to do homework at the resort?

AH.. I thought it was less fun than school. At school you have friends and homework buddies to help you when the problems are hard. But I am glad I was able to go for mom's medical conference and have all the fun we had around the resort.

BH.. It was fun to study beside the pool. But when I came home, I had to catch up on lecture information I missed.

STM.. Would you recommend kids missing school for a vacation?

AH.. No because you miss out on learning. I had fun on vacation, but I would rather go when we have a break.

BH.. I had a lot of fun but I know I missed information during lecture. I agree with Ari we should try and go during school breaks.

STM.. Noted. We will try and schedule business trips over school breaks as much as possible.

STM.. Our room in the Seaside Village had a pullout bed in addition to the two Full size beds. What was it like to sleep on the sofa bed?

BH.. It was too stiff for me, but I like not sharing a bed with my sister and rotating beds each night.

AH.. It was terrible. The mattress was very uncomfortable.

STM.. Each night we tried to continue having fun as a family after dinner and before bed. What was your favorite evening activity?

AH.. I liked the night we watched En Canto. It is my favorite movie and we watched it on a big screen outside after dark.

BH.. I liked swimming after dark in the Italian pool. The lights were on, and we had almost the whole pool to ourselves to play catch with a football.

STM.. They let you swim in the pools after dark?

BH.. Yes, many families swam at night and enjoyed the hot tub.
